THIS PLAY IS SET ENTIRELY IN "A ROOM" WHERE THIS FAMILY IS BEING TORTURED BY A TOTALITARIAN GOVERNMENT FIGURE WHO IS VERBALLY AND PHYSICALLY TORTURING THEM FOR AN UNNAMED OFFENSE.

FOR THIS DESIGN, I SOUGHT TO CREATE A WORLD THAT FELT BOTH CONFINED AND VULNERABLE. THE SEATING WAS IN THRUST WITH A MIRROR BEHIND, MAKING THE AUDIENCE VISIBLE TO THEMSELVES.

for THE SET ITSELF, I USED A SIMPLE CENTRAL ORIENTAL RUG. ON THE FOUR CORNERS, I HAD 2 CHAIRS, A SMALL SIDE TABLE WITH A LAMP, AND A BAR CART WITH A RADIO ATOP IT. THE CAST MOVED THE CHAIRS THROUGHOUT, CREATING DIFFERENT DIAGONALS AND SIGHT-LINES THROUGHOUT THE PIECE.
